// Design Process
Context Study

The study was initiated by getting myself certified for BLS training, conducted by AHA in Saifee Hospital, Mumbai. Later, participation in various training sessions helped gain knowledge about CPR.
Research + Brief

Primary and secondary research conducted to understand the cardiac arrest scenario in India.
Discussions were conducted with docters to understand better ways of interventions. The brief was formulated on the research collected during this phase.
Ideations +
Prototyping-1

Quick and crude models made using corrugated boxes to understand the scale with the human context. After lot of brainstorming, these designs were further refined to check the mechanisms and assembly time.
User testing-1

Intuitiveness of the few proposed designs were tested. Feedback received helped in the progress of the design.
Ideations +
Prototyping-2

A working design was fabricated based on the user feedbacks and was tested on a manikin. During this stage many handle lengths were tested. Later after user trials, a longer handle design proved to be a better solution.
User Testing-2

New users were invited to mimic an actual untrained bystander condition, and their actions and feedbacks were noted.
Final Design

The selected design was further detailed and then the final design was fabricated from an external vendor.
// Context Study

> Attended CPR awareness sessions across schools, government offices and social events
> Observed bystander mindsets and behaviours
> Gained insights into real world CPR awareness

> Hospital and ambulance visit to study cardiac arrest response
> Explored devices used by medical professional in case of emergency
> Gained hands on experience of the functionality of the device

> BLS training conducted by AHA
> Learned when and how to perform CPR
> Got trained to use AED machine
> Developed awareness of emergency situations and appropriate responses
> Received BLS certification
// Problem Identification
Lack Of Awareness:

> People dont know what is cardiac arrest often misundertood as heart attack
> Bystander rush victim to hospital rather than giving CPR
> No robust EMS available
Lack Of Training:

> Very few training centers in India
> Schools have not included CPR training in syllabus
Gender Difference:

> Men are most likely to receive bystander CPR in public locations
> Constant apprehension of falling into trouble if helped an opposite gender stop men from performing CPR
// Opportunity- Scope Of Intervension

// Insights
An intuitive device that can encourage rescuers to use it and help victim
Easy action to provide CPR and also to help perform CPR for longer duration
Easily available and cost effective solution
An intervention that can allow opposite gender CPR
A device that is portable and easy to maintain
A device that do not need prior knowledge on how to use it
An intervention that can provide guidance for good CPR
A design that could also help create awareness
// Design Brief
To design a cost effective, manually operated and a high quality CPR provider device for an untrained bystander, allowing him/her to:
> Provide CPR with easy action(up/down) for avg 20mins without getting much fatigued
> Provide good quality CPR
> Quickly assemble the device around the victim and start CPR without wasting much time
// Mood Board

// Ideations + Mockups

//How to use the device

> Identifying Cardiac Arrest
> Accessing Nearby CPR Device
> Mobilization of Device To Site
> Placement of Device
> Device Assembly
> Chest Depth Calibration
> Start CPR
